Privacy, without the fog.
Who we are
Queerly Beloved is a Vancouver-based wedding vendor directory operated by Jen Pearson. This policy explains how Queerly Beloved handles personal information under British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and other applicable Canadian privacy laws.
What we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- Vendor application information: business name, contact name, email address, website, social links, service area, category, inclusion practices, accessibility information, dietary or service accommodations, and notes you choose to provide.
- Couple or visitor enquiries: contact information and the wedding or vendor requirements you choose to send us.
- Communications: emails and other messages exchanged with Queerly Beloved.
- Public business research: information a business has made public on its own website or public business channels. Research notes are used to assess possible directory fit and are not automatically published.
- Technical information: standard hosting and security information such as IP address, browser/device information, requested pages and timestamps may be processed in server logs.
Why we use it
We use personal information to review applications, operate and curate the directory, create and maintain vendor listings, respond to enquiries, verify information with vendors, prevent abuse, maintain site security, comply with legal obligations, and communicate about a vendor's relationship with Queerly Beloved.
What becomes public
Submitting an application does not automatically publish anything. If a vendor is accepted, we confirm the information intended for the public listing. Queer-owned status is self-described and opt-in. We do not infer sexual orientation or gender identity from photographs, names, social media, third-party descriptions or other signals.
Consent and choices
We collect, use and disclose personal information only for purposes a reasonable person would consider appropriate and with consent where required. You may withdraw consent for optional uses, subject to legal or operational requirements. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide a particular service or maintain a listing.
Service providers and processing outside Canada
We use service providers for hosting, databases, email and related infrastructure. These providers may process or store information outside British Columbia or Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. We limit service providers to information reasonably required for the service they provide.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including maintaining application and vendor records, resolving disputes, documenting consent or unsubscribe requests, and meeting legal obligations. We may retain minimal suppression records so that someone who unsubscribes is not contacted again.
Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards appropriate to the information we hold. No internet service can promise absolute security, but we work to limit access and avoid collecting information we do not need.
Your rights
You may ask to access or correct personal information Queerly Beloved holds about you, subject to exceptions under applicable law. You may also ask questions about our privacy practices or make a privacy complaint.
Commercial email
Where Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) applies, Queerly Beloved aims to send commercial electronic messages only where there is consent or another lawful basis, to include required sender information, and to provide a simple way to unsubscribe. You can ask us to stop commercial outreach at any time by replying “unsubscribe” or emailing us.
